Welcome to our world of English expertise

Imagine you could further improve your English outside the classroom in your own time and in a place of your choosing. To maximise the benefit of your course with the world’s English experts, we strongly recommend that you make use of our online student portal to supplement and enhance your learning.

Our student portal

While many schools offer some form of online language practice, at the British Council we are taking it to the next level. On our new student portal not only will you be able to communicate with your teacher and other students online, you will also collaborate in additional learning activities set up by our qualified e-tutor.

How does it work?

The system is very easy to use and very much looks like the social media sites you are familiar with, such as Facebook. When you register and log in you will have access to a group for your class only where you can communicate with the other students in the class and your teacher. Here you can also check what homework there is, what was covered in a class you missed and you’ll often find your teacher sharing an extra resource or two.

Who can use the portal?

All adult and secondary students in our English courses have free and unlimited access to the student learning portal for the whole academic year (September to July the following year), even if they have studied for just one term during that period. This means you can continue to use the portal beyond the end of your course. We take online safety very seriously at the British Council and monitor the platform closely so you can be assured that it is a safe, comfortable place for adult and teen learners.

How can I get access?

Your teacher will show you how to create an account with Edmodo, the platform we run the portal from, and they will give you a group code to join the right group. You can then use it straightaway on your computer, mobile phone or any other device using your browser or the Edmodo app.

Here are the four easy steps:

  1. Visit and click on the ‘I am a student’ button
  2. Click on ‘Create new Edmodo account’ and follow the steps.
  3. When registering, don’t forget to enter the six-digit group code provided by your teacher. If you skip it you will not get access to the British Council groups and resources.
  4. If you are an adult student please ignore the request for parent’s email and skip this step.
