What are the BritUp! workshops?

The BritUp! workshops are designed for school groups of students aged 14-18, who have a B1 level of English according to the Common European Framework of Languages or higher.

The workshops take place at the British Council office in Sofia and are held in English. They include a one-day programme, packed with fun and practical activities, followed by a short version of the computer-based Aptis test. 

During the workshops students will be able to: 

  • practice their language skills – speaking, writing, reading and listening 
  • receive a proof of their language proficiency, based on the results from the Aptis test 
  • become familiar with interesting topics from British literature and art 
  • learn more about UK educational opportunities. 

Programme

10.15-12.00 

Part 1: Language and culture – you can choose one of the following topics:

  • "Romeo and Juliet"
  • "Hamlet" 
  • "Lord of the rings"
  • How to think like Sherlock
12.00-12.40 Lunch
12.45-14.05 Part 2: Education in the UK – Higher education opportunities and the university application process. Language courses and holidays in the UK. Language certificates that will help you boost your future education and career.   
14.20-15.45 Part 3: Computer-based Aptis test – accurate and reliable language skills assessment from the world experts in English 

How to organise a school trip?

The workshops are available on each Monday, except on public holidays and non-working days, in the period from October to June. They are intended for groups of 10 to 30 students. Individual bookings are not accepted. 

When a group is made up of more than 15 students it will be split in two (in the order in which names are listed on the application form) for Parts 2 and 3 of the programme. 

To plan your school trip to our office, you should make a reservation at least 15 days in advance by emailing us the completed application form (at the bottom of this page). We will contact you within 3 working days to confirm the booking or offer you an alternative date, in case the chosen one is unavailable.

What’s the participation fee?

The fee per student is 30 lv. and should be paid by bank transfer, in accordance with the instructions on the application form. It covers the expenses for organising the whole workshop, including learning materials and handouts, Aptis test results and lunch. 

Our services and fees do not cover travel and accommodation in Sofia, nor any other expenses made for organising the school trip. School group teachers/ supervisors do not have to pay a fee.
