All of our passionate and dedicated teachers meet the highest international standards with formal qualifications and extensive experience in teaching English to students of all ages. Our minimum requirements for teachers are:

  • education to degree level or equivalent qualification
  • a certificate level qualification in teaching English as a foreign language such as Cambridge University CELTA or Trinity College London CertTESOL
  • at least two years’ teaching experience
  • high proficiency in the use of the English language.

 

Meet the teachers

Karina Velikova

Karina Velikova

Karina has a BA in British and American studies and a CELTA qualification. Her experience of working with children started off when she joined the British Council as a Teaching Assistant, responsible for the wellbeing and needs of all our kids’ classes. Nowadays her passion for language and teaching has led her to join the team of British Council teachers. Karina’s interest in teaching can only be matched to her creativity and love of culture.

Keneward Hill

Keneward Hill

Born in Peterborough, Keneward has a BA (German&Spanish), PGCE (German&French) and a TESOL Diploma. He has worked as a teacher at the British Council since 1999. Ken has significant experience of preparing students and examining for internationally recognised English language tests. He is CELTA and DELTA course tutor and regional DELTA tutor. He does translating and editing and has co-written English textbooks. He likes singing, cooking and swimming (not at the same time!)

Kristina Panteleeva

Kristina Pantaleeva

Kristina has a degree in Applied Linguistics from Sofia University as well as a Cambridge CELTA qualification. She has been teaching for more than 12 years, both in Bulgaria and the UK, and has attended a number of overseas courses. She enjoys the challenges of corporate training and adult classes are her passion because of the opportunity to communicate with people from all walks of life. Kristina likes spending time with her family and friends, exploring the mountains, skiing and horse-riding.

Maria Aleksandrova

Maria is a chemical engineer with a degree in organic chemistry. Five years ago she found out that what makes her truly happy is teaching. The English language and literature inspired her, so now she tries to pay it forward. Maria holds the CELTA teaching qualification and has been teaching teenagers and adults for 5 years. She has also been involved with assessment of students. In her free time she enjoys relaxing in the company of a good book. 

Maya Ivanova

Maya Ivanova

Maya has CELTA and DELTA qualifications and a Master's Degree in English Philology. She has taught the whole plethora of English levels and student age groups. Maya has gained vast experience in examining for internationally recognised English language tests. In her free time she studies foreign languages – French and Portuguese – and enjoys city life.

Pavel Velichkov

Pavel Velichkov

Pavel has a Bachelor’s degree in English and American Studies from the Sofia University. He joined the British Council as an IELTS Assistant in the Exams department and then attained his CELTA teaching qualification. He now teaches English to young learners, teenagers and adults. Pavel loves cycling in the city and in his free time he enjoys riding a longboard or a snowboard, but most importantly – he loves playing music.

Plamen Evlogiev

Plamen Evlogiev

Plamen has been in love with the English language since he was 6 and managed to achieve his dream of becoming a teacher at 20. Having been with us as a Teaching Assistant, he attained his CELTA qualification in 2017. Plamen has also done a 6-month course in English Language and Literature in Germany. He is currently in his last year of English Philology and is doing a NILE teaching qualification, training to become a YL teacher. He is passionate about Psychology and Literature.

Polina Yavasheva

Polina Yavasheva

Polly has worked as an English teacher in Bulgaria and the UK. She has attained the internationally-recognised teaching award of the Cambridge University DELTA and holds a Master’s degree in British and American Studies from Sofia University. Polly has significant experience of preparing students and examining for internationally recognised English language tests. Being in love with life, in her free time she enjoys dancing, poetry, and travelling around the world.

Romina Zhekova

Romina Zhekova

Having recently graduated in the UK, Romina worked in England for a year as an EFL/ESOL teacher. She has enjoyed every minute of her teaching experience and is very happy to have the opportunity to teach in Bulgaria now. Romina is very fond of experiencing foreign cultures. She also enjoys learning languages and quite likes literature (science fiction and fantasy fiction). A curious fact about her is that Romina is fond of Japanese culture for no particular reason.

Sofia Yakimova

Sofia Yakimova

Sophie studied British and American Studies at Sofia University and attained a CELTA qualification quickly after her graduation. While still studying, she started gaining experience of working with children as a teaching assistant and a part-time exam assistant. Her enthusiasm and dedication led her to become part of our Teaching Centre. In her free time Sophie enjoys reading Sci-Fi novels and she says she would like to take up drawing as a new hobby!
