All of our passionate and dedicated teachers meet the highest international standards with formal qualifications and extensive experience in teaching English to students of all ages. Our minimum requirements for teachers are:

  • education to degree level or equivalent qualification
  • a certificate level qualification in teaching English as a foreign language such as Cambridge University CELTA or Trinity College London CertTESOL
  • at least two years’ teaching experience
  • high proficiency in the use of the English language.

Anellia Mladenova

Anellia Mladenova

Senior Teacher

Anellia has a Master’s degree in English Philology from Sofia University and an additional qualification in teaching learners with visual impairment from Birmingham University. She completed her DELTA at International House-London and the Young Learners’ Extension to CELTA in Poland. Anellia has extensive teaching experience in both Bulgaria and the UK, and was Head of the EFL School at Rochester Independent College.

Bobby Zlatkov

Bobby Zlatkov

Senior Teacher

Bobby has been teaching English to learners of all ages for more than 11 years. He holds the internationally acclaimed teaching qualifications of Cambridge University, CELTA and DELTA, and is also a CELTA tutor and teacher trainer. Bobby is a Cambridge Speaking Examiner and is involved in teacher training through delivering seminars and workshops. He adores languages (learning and teaching), which is why he is doing an MA in English literature and culture at Sofia University.

Alexander Kirov

Alexander Kirov

Holding a BA in English Philology from Sofia University, Alex has completed the CELTA course and is currently doing a NILE course in Teaching English in the Pre-Primary Education. He started at the British Council in his first year at university and has worked with most of our young learner levels and is known and loved by many of the children. Alex is extremely passionate about the arts. His voice has been described as 'heavenly' and very often his friends can’t seem to get him to stop singing.

Brendan Marren

Brendan Marren

Brendan is a CELTA qualified teacher and has been teaching at the British Council since 2004. Before becoming a teacher he worked for the British Council in the UK and abroad in a number of financial posts and as an external consultant. He has also worked in real estate. In his spare time he enjoys walking in the mountain close to where he lives and cultivating his ever expanding vegetable garden. His favourite group is the UK 80’s band The Smiths.

Cathal Leonard

Cathal Leonard

Lenny, as friends and students call him, is from County Mayo in Ireland. He has an MA in Political Science from Queens University Belfast and attained his CELTA teaching qualification in Budapest. Lenny has experience in teaching adults and teenagers of various levels. He enjoys playing the guitar, or trying to at least.

David How

David How

David is from Guildford in the South East of England. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Physics and CELTA Young Learner teaching qualifications. David has been teaching English since 2003 when he moved to Bulgaria. He has worked for the British Council since 2005. He is married and has a 7-year-old daughter who was born in Sofia. He loves to spend his free time with his family, enjoys reading and the occasional jog.

Emma Shiekova

Emma Shiekova

Born in Middlesbrough, North England, Emma grew up in Bulgaria and the UK. After a degree in Economics and Politics at Manchester University, she started teaching English in a London EFL school and ESOL to immigrants and asylum-seekers. Emma then combined teaching with her love of other cultures, world food and travelling (her plan: to travel to all 196 countries) in Russia, Scotland and South Korea. Emma has a CELTA, CELTA YL and Certificate of Education in ESOL and Further Education Teaching.

Hristina Yovcheva

Hristina Yovcheva

Hristina has Master’s degrees in Tourism and HR Management and is a Thomas International certified expert in psychometric analysis. After nine years of corporate experience Hristina embarked on Business English teaching as a CELTA certified teacher. She has been teaching English to deaf students since 2015 as a volunteer at a non-governmental organisation. Hristina is married with 3 children.

Ivaylo Ivanov

Ivaylo Ivanov

Ivaylo has a Master’s degree in International Relations from Sofia University. After several years of corporate experience, he discovered his vocation for teaching. Having attained the Cambridge CELTA qualification, he has been teaching English to adults and young learners ever since. Ivaylo enjoys cycling and martial arts, but above all – trekking – a passion of his, which has taken him as far as the Himalayas.

Iveta Taseva

Iveta Tasseva

Since receiving her Master’s degree in British and American Studies, Iveta has worked as an English teacher in Bulgaria and the UK, and has attained DELTA and CELTYL qualifications. She has significant experience of preparing students and examining for internationally recognised English language tests. In her free time, energetic Iveta enjoys swimming, skating, and mountain walking.
