Several young people stand on a pavement, talking and looking at large informational posters displayed along a black metal fence outside a light-coloured historic building.

At the very end of January and beginning of February, from the yard fence of the British Council in Sofia – the official launch of the national travelling exhibition “Youth connected against disinformation” is given.

The initiative is implemented by OPEN SPACE Foundation, with the support of the British Council in Bulgaria, in partnership with the Association of European Journalists – Bulgaria (AEJ) and is part of the project Youth Connected Against Disinformation. Due to strong interest from educational institutions across the country, the project has expanded beyond its initial scope. The exhibition will travel along six parallel routes, reaching more than 60 schools in 34 towns across Bulgaria.

The project focuses on strengthening young people’s media literacy and critical thinking skills at a time when digital technologies, artificial intelligence and the rapid spread of information present growing challenges. A key element of the initiative is its peer-to-peer approach, in which young people take on the role of educators, sharing knowledge and experience with their peers.

Through journalism-based research, social theatre and interactive games, participants explore topics such as recognising disinformation and manipulative content, developing a responsible digital identity, and staying safe online. The programme also addresses issues related to cyberbullying, online scams and harmful online communities.

The travelling exhibition consists of 16 interactive panels, each equipped with QR codes leading to articles, videos and original research created by the young participants. The exhibition encourages dialogue and active engagement with information, using formats and language relevant to the digital generation.

The organisers invite schools, media organisations, cultural centres and libraries to engage with the initiative and contribute to discussions around disinformation and young people’s digital wellbeing.
